About

mvmOS Chat is messaging between Apps Hub accounts, one to one or in groups. Find someone by name, start a conversation, and it stays in your list. Contacts come from your Apps Hub favourites, so the people you talk to most are always at the top. Create a group with up to 50 people, name it, and add or remove members later. Group admins manage the members and the name, everyone can leave at any time, and new members only see what is written after they join. Every message shows who wrote it, and the conversation list shows unread counts for both chats and groups. Messages arrive live over a WebSocket, with typing indicators, editing and deleting — either just for you, or for everyone if you wrote it. The same conversations are reachable from a public web page for your Apps Hub account and from a Telegram mini-app, so you can keep talking away from the desktop. The whole interface is available in nine languages.

Chat ships a Telegram adapter, so your conversations are reachable from the Telegram Hub bot.

Requires: Telegram Hub installed with a bot token configured, and your Telegram account linked to your Apps Hub account.

End-to-end encrypted chats

Once the administrator switches encryption on, people using Chat through Apps Hub can choose for every direct chat and group whether it is encrypted. Messages are encrypted in the browser before they are sent and stored only as ciphertext, so neither the server nor a stolen database can reveal what was written.

Encrypt every new chat

Each person can decide that all of their new chats start encrypted, and can still override it for a single conversation. Regular and encrypted chats live side by side, and existing chats stay exactly as they were.

Personal passphrase and recovery code

Each person protects their keys with a passphrase of their own that never leaves the device, and receives a recovery code to save. Both can be changed later, and the keys can be reset if everything is lost, which makes older encrypted messages unreadable.

Automatic key changes for groups

When someone is added to or removed from an encrypted group, or resets their own keys, the conversation moves to a fresh key automatically. New members read only what is written after they join, and people who left cannot read anything new.

Security codes

Every person has a short security code that can be compared through another channel such as a phone call. If a contact's code ever changes, Chat asks before sending anything further, and notifications for encrypted chats never reveal the message text.

Administrator control

The administrator turns encryption on or off from the settings button in the Chat window. When it is off, people simply do not see the option, and chats that are already encrypted stay locked until it is switched back on. Regular chats are never affected.
